New Year’s Resolutions 2017

Over Christmas things got a little bit off plan for me – and I know I’m not the only one who has over indulged over the festive period. Towards the middle of December the temptation all became a bit too much. It felt like there were Celebrations and mince pies everywhere I turned. So, for the first time since starting Slimming World back in August, I crumbled. One mince pie turned into a 3 a day habit washed down by a Gingerbread latte and a nightly Baileys (or 4).

And that’s is one of the reasons I wanted to start this blog. To help me stay on track, share my progress and recipes, and hopefully inspire others to get fitter. If I can motivate myself to get my arse off the sofa anyone can.

So, my New Years resolutions for 2017 include:

  1. Stick to the Slimming World plan until I get to target (and beyond)
  2. Get my 10,000 steps in every day
  3. I’d like to be able to comfortably complete a 10k
  4. Continue to Zumba and learn how to dance
  5. Keep this blog updated

Progress so far

Yesterday, as it was the first day of 2017 I stuck to the SW plan despite being faced with lots of syn-heavy stuff at my mum and dad’s New Years Day BBQ (yes, I said BBQ. And yes, we live in North West England). Both Ben and I are off alcohol for the month so we avoided the syns in that.

But it’s hard when you’re at other people’s houses and they are doing the catering. I felt rude saying no to things that my mum had spent time and effort cooking, and like I was being a party pooper by not having a drink. But at the end of the day, it’s for the good of my health to say no to those things. And I could have had a glass of wine if I chose to BUT I wanted the cheesecake for dessert. Because I love cheesecake. And there were 15.5syns in that alone.

Today

Today, while I still have the fresh momentum of the new year pushing me to do things, I got up and went for a run. I downloaded the couch to 10k app and borrowed Ben’s cycling jacket because it was bloody freezing out there.

I’m not going to lie, I didn’t find the run as easy as I’d hoped – I have done some running in the past, though none since my third daughter was born. In fact, none since I found out I was expecting number 3, which was over 15 months ago.

The first session included 8 runs of 1 minute each, interspersed with periods of walking. I completed it and frankly am proud of myself for just getting out there and doing it. It isn’t easy to find the time to exercise with 3 kids aged 6 and under but I’m done with excuses. 2017 is going to be the year I get thin, fit and healthy. I’m determined.
